  • Louisville - John Franklin Pfeiffer II, died Sunday April 1, 2018, following a stroke. He was 75.
  • Born Oct. 19, 1942, in Louisville, he was the son of Geneva Morris and John F. Pfeiffer Sr. A 1960 honors graduate of Shawnee High School, he was editor of its newspaper The Shawnee Lantern, and was voted most likely to succeed.
  • He received his bachelor's degree in 1964 from the University of Kentucky where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta social fraternity, campus and arts editor of The Kentucky Kernel newspaper, member of men's sophomore honorary Keys, junior honorary Lances, and president of senior honorary Lamp and Cross. He was also vice president of journalism fraternity Sigma Delta Chi. Elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, national men's honorary society, he hosted its honors night at UK in 1964.
  • In 1965 he was awarded a master's degree in English from Duke University where his dissertation was on writer F. Scott Fitzgerald.

  • Pfeiffer became The Courier-Journal's first summer intern in 1962 while at UK. The following year he was a summer intern on The Louisville Times.
  • For three years he was an English instructor at Kentucky Southern College, which later became the University of Louisville's Shelbyville Road campus. He also taught English at Jefferson Community College.
  • Pfeiffer was a public relations and advertising professional in New York and Louisville. In New York he was assistant director of public relations at Lord &Taylor, an N. W. Ayer & Son account representative for DeBeers Industrial Diamonds and AT&T, vice president of George P. Clarke Advertising Agency, and Bozell & Jacobs International account supervisor for Minolta, USA.
  • In Louisville he was director of public relations for the YMCA of Greater Louisville and creative director for Fred R. Becker Advertising..
  • Pfeiffer was co-owner and president of Flower Tree Florist in Louisville's Shelbyville Road Plaza and sales and leasing consultant for Oxmoor/Green Tree Toyota/Saturn of Louisville.
  • Survivors include Charles Whaley, who cared for him, several cousins including Alice (Betsy) Mota and Gloria Kleinholter plus many friends, especially Roz Goepper, Elfi Grote, Nancy Yelvington, and Judi Carr.
  • Cremation and private burial were chosen. Memorial contributions may be sent to Kentuckiana , 3425 Stony Spring Circle, #102, Louisville, KY 40220, and Hosparus Development Office, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40205-3224.
