  • Judy Litzelswope Brown
  • November 6, 1942 - November 21, 2021

  • I lost my mom, Judy Litzelswope Brown Sunday, November 21, 2021. She was 79 and so very special to many people
  • She was born to Helen Schmeing Litzelswope and Louis Litzelswope on November 6, 1942. She graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Western Kentucky University. For decades she worked as the office manager to Dr. Luther Pearce (Psychiatrist). Upon his retirement, she became the Membership Director at the Kentucky Dental Association, retiring in 2014.
  • German, stubborn, fiercely independent and a single mom, she taught me all the good parts of who I have become today
  • She taught me to never incur debt and always balance your checkbook to the penny.
  • She budgeted so I had the latest jeans and a car at sixteen.
  • She taught me how to cut grass, shoot a bb gun and make a roast. She never missed a chance to teach me something I would certainly need as I got older.
  • She instilled discipline and tenacity in me while being graceful and strong at the same time.
  • She (unknowingly) taught me how to stop my kids in their tracks by a single look. She never let her parental guard down but was always there when I made a mistake.
  • She showed me that there is always time and money to help someone in need, and never pass up that opportunity when it presents itself.

2021 Obituary

  • She loved the Louisville Cardinals and had Lamar and Teddy on her calendar as if it were a date.
  • She taught me a curfew was a deadline, not a negotiation.
  • She insisted on good manners and exposed me to the cultured arts, beautiful hotels, and the joy of drinking tea out of white bone china.
  • She showed me how to be a stern parent while gaining the respect of your children.
  • Her ability to pick out a grammatical error was impeccable, and her love of brain teasers kept her sharp until her last breath.
  • She loved “scoop” from my girlfriends and taught me neighbors and friends were sometimes better than family.
  • She loved a bowl of chili on a cold day, a good book and always appreciating the small things that made life enjoyable.
  • She is survived by me, Stacy Brown Bellis her only child, her son-in-law Frank Bellis that she loved as her own and her 3 grandchildren Nikki Swift (Spencer), Sam and Ashley who were the absolute center of her world. Nothing made her happier than being in their lives.
  • She was a blessing on this earth, and I was so lucky to be able to call her mom. I will miss her late-night texts, funny memes, mistake pie and perspective on life.
  • But most of all I will miss knowing she isn’t here anymore. The pictures I send her won’t be seen and the texts will go unread. I can’t call her to rant while secretly looking for her advice. She is gone and I will never be anchored the same. She is in a better place, but I will never be better without her here. Her family loved her so much and will miss her every day.
  • Her funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1pm. Monday, November 29th at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Visitation begins at 10am. prior to the service on Monday.
  • As practical as she was, she would hate that money was spent on flowers for her. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation be made in her name to the JB Scholarship fund at St. Xavier High School, Louisville Kentucky.
