Betty Ann Kaelin

    2020

  • Betty Ann Kaelin Pfeiffer

  • Betty completed her journey on this earth on October 29th, 2020, after fighting a long losing battle with the debilitating effects of dementia.
  • Betty was born on August 31st, 1940, to Frank Frederick and Evelyn S. Kaelin. She grew up in the Portland neighborhood, where she graduated from Shawnee High School in 1958. She met Robert W. Pfeiffer soon after, and they were married in 1959.
  • She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker, but worked for a brief time at the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, and in her later years, at the Louisville Free Public Library, Southwest Branch. Betty was a member of the Kenwood Church of Christ, and a former member of the Southend Church of Christ, where she attended for over 47 years, teaching the preschool Bible class for the better part of 30 of those years.

  • She was always ready to help anyone with any project. All you had to do, was ask her if she would help, and she would be there and give one hundred percent . Betty was firm believer that tape could fix anything. From door screens to re-attaching car hubcaps and beyond. She was also an avid collector of rocks. Always on the lookout for any odd color or shape, having amassed about 100 pounds worth over the years.
  • Betty spent her later years helping to care for her granddaughter, teaching her to read and giving her a love of books; showing her all of the wonders of the world, with frequent trips to the zoo, museums and parks.
  • Sadly, the effects of dementia started to arise in early 2015, and so started a slow spiral of memory loss and other physical complications. Betty spent her final years in the memory care unit of Symphony at Valley Farms and then was admitted to the Lyndon Woods Care and Rehab Center, where she spent her final days.
  • Betty was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband and her sister, Marie “Mickey” Reynolds.
  • She is survived by her son, Robert Mark Pfeiffer (Rhonda), her granddaughter, Rachel Fautz (Eric), and her niece, Vicki Reynolds.
  • A service to celebrate Betty's life will take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Southwest Chapel (10304 Dixie Highway) with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will accept guests for visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 pm
