    • Gary and Mary Jo Byrne

  • Gary is married to Mary Jo Hesse Byrne (SHS '60). They have four children, Darin, Kelly, Kevin, and Allison, six grandsons, Connor, Nolan, Alex, Sam, Matthew, and Thomas, and two granddaughters, Skylar and Brooke.

 

 

 

  • Retired in 1995 as UPS manager
  • Volunteer at Kosair Children's Hospital
  • Captain for Bike to Beat Cancer Team "Just for Kids"
  • Shortly after high school, I went into the US Army for three years. Upon returning to civilian life, I began work with a trucking firm as a dispatcher. In 1964, when UPS expanded into Kentucky, I began work with them as a delivery driver, was promoted into management and retired in 1995 as a management training manager.
  • Mary Jo and I married in 1962, began having children in 1966, relocated several times with UPS, and returned to Louisville upon our retirement.
  • We both volunteer, enjoy our grandchildren, and have done our share of traveling.
  • I enjoy working with computers, created the Shawnee High School Classes of 1958 and 1960 websites, and serve on the reunion committee of my SHS 1958 class.
  • I am an enthusiastic bicycle rider and raise funds for the Norton Cancer Institute through biketobeatcancer.org. We are always looking for riders, volunteers and donations!
