- Gloria Jean “Butch” Ragan, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday February 12, 2024 at Hosparus Health Care Center following a sudden and unexpected illness
- Butch was a dedicated and compassionate medical professional having served our community at both Jewish Hospital and Norton Children’s Hospital before moving to private practice at the Pediatric firm of Larson, Brough, and Brockman before retiring in 2013. Following her retirement, Butch continued to serve those around her, acting as a volunteer patient advocate and intermediary for the residents of the Christian Care Communities, taking the residents to medical appointments and acting as a liaison between those patients she accompanied and their families to ensure correct and accurate information was relayed back to the families of the individuals from the attending physicians/ medical facilities.

- She was well known to all the residents and staff of the Christian Care Communities for always volunteering to prepare, serve, and clean up following any dining event they would host. Butch was best known for the multitude of various character costumes she would wear for these events in order to make them both successful and enjoyable for those in attendance. She also volunteered her time helping with each Sunday worship service provided by Christian Care Communities and was a member of Kenwood Heights Christian Church.
- In 2023 Butch received the Volunteer of the Year award from the State of Kentucky in recognition of all the hard work she performed helping those around her. The lives she touched with her generous and giving spirit are too numerous to count and our community has truly lost an earthbound angel.
- Butch is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Lonnie Lee Ragan Jr., her father and mother, Frank and Alma Krebs, and her sister Catherine (Krebs) Kapp.
- Left to cherish her memory is her son, Tom Ragan, sisters, Joyce Schaffer, Maria Stuckenborg, Dolly Hellman, Darlene Cain (George) as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
- Per Butch’s wishes, cremation and direct internment will take place with a Celebration of Life Memorial that will take place at a later date and time. Information for this event will be provided to all those wishing to attend in the coming weeks. Her ashes will be placed next to her husband at Resthaven Memorial Park.
- Butch’s family would like to offer their gratitude and sincerest appreciation to the staff and care givers at both U of L Jewish Hospital and Hosparus Health Care Center for all the support and compassion given by them to Gloria in her final days as she made her peaceful transition from this world to the next. We have all gained a true guardian angel who will continue to watch over us in the days and years to come.
