Barbara Karem Thomas

  • I married Fred Morehead Thomas January, 29, 1961. Fred received his GED while in the Navy. Fred and I have four children, fourteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. I was a stay at home mom for the first fifteen years of our marriage. Fred and I lived in Maryville and then Okolona before building our home in Oldham County in 1974. We built our home with the help of our children, close family and friends. I worked for the Printing House for the Blind for nine years as a brailiest. Throughout the years I have worked several local factory jobs before retiring from Linak USA in Anchorage KY a year ago. Three of our children have moved away and live in Indiana, Ohio and Arizona and we see them often. Our oldest son lives just up the road from us.
  • Since retiring I have been afforded the time to spend doing what I enjoy the most and that is working in my yard, making popcorn quilts for my grandchildren, taking my eight year old granddaughter to the movies and visiting with family and friends.

  • Fred and I have started a business with our son Michael here in Kentucky. Our company is Safety Glow USA and we produce photoluminescent (glow in the dark) safety products such as paint, rope and yarns. We have a patent on the yarn process. Our paint is MEA local law 26 approved for use in evacuation of buildings. Our paint was featured on Wave 3 news in Aug 2007.
