Fred Banks

  • I have been married to Linda Banks since 1984. Linda is a native of Findlay, Ohio and the mother of two children. We have five children (between us) and ten wonderful grandchildren. Eight of the ten live in Louisville within two miles of our house. The other two live in Nashville, just three hours away. It is a rare day when we do not have at least one grandchild visiting us.
  • graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and am a Licensed Professional Engineer. I retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in 1995 after 33 years of service. After retirement, I worked two years for American Air Filter International as Director of Global Purchasing. My last five years with B&W and the two years with AAF were spent developing strategies for global purchasing to leverage the international buying power of those companies. This work allowed (or required) a great deal of international travel throughout Europe and Asia. I think I enjoyed the travel, at the time, but I now have very little desire to go any farther than the beach.

  • I play golf about twice a week and enjoy woodworking, college sports and volunteer work for my church. I am an active elder at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Louisvil le and have served on several committees of the Presbytery of Mid-Kentucky. In 2006 I was the Elder Commissioner from Mid-Kentucky to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Birmingham.
  • I often think about our days at Shawnee. One of the things that still stands out in my mind is the quality of education we received from some outstanding teachers. I went to college with kids from the "best schools" in Louisville, Atlanta, Nashville and throughout the south. None of them had been better prepared for college or life than we were.
